EcoFlow: Powering the RV Full-Timer Lifestyle

For those who choose to live life as Nomads on the road as Full Time or Part Time RVers, an Eco Flow “whole home” backup system can fit nicely into your RV lifestyle plans.

Some RVers own winter RV lots in warm climates. Many Canadians visit the Southern US states or Northern Mexican states in winter when it’s freezing back home up in Canada.

For this RVer - who’s been on the road since retirement in 2018, like others,we gravitated to purchasing a wintertime RV plot of land in the Arizona desert southwest. Living in the desert poses some challenges - especially when you’re AWAY from your winter property in the summertime. Our “Park Model” (fixed) trailer can cook in the desert heat. In addition to normal preparations to keep the buildings cool, we’ve deployed a Delta Pro Ultra solution with two DPUs (inverters) and four batteries (giving us 24kWh of storage and 14.4kW of concurrent usable power). We use several hybrid (solar + grid) MiniSplit HVAC systems to keep our buildings at 78°F all summer long. At night, we rely on our batteries and DPUs to power the units. Running in what’s called “Self Powered” mode allows our deployed solar panels to charge up the batteries and at night they power the loads just fine.

During the Fall and Winter - when we return to our sunny RV lot, we plug into a 50amp RV receptacle where our DPUs and batteries are located and we can augment our power usage with the Delta Pro Ultra system since in the wintertime we seldom run the MiniSplit systems as they’re just not needed as much. So we switch the solar panels over from directly powering the MiniSplits to powering the DPUs. The goal is to offset the cost of high utility power between the hours of 4pm and 7pm when utility rates are the highest. For this we switch to the TOU (time of use) mode or use SCHEDULED TASKS to manage when we want to run on batteries and when we want to recharge those batteries.

We’re even thinking of using a DPU in our Class A RV when on the road!
