Connecting delta pro ultra units to the main vs the sub panel

I have a main panel outside and a sub panel in my garage. Has anyone done one or the other? My Tesla is in the garage and I am thinking that would be the place for a bigger unit to peak shave and back up power in an emergency. Thoughts?
