Electromagnetic Induction: The physics inside the 800W Alternator Charger

Standard vehicle alternators output between 12V and 14V. But to efficiently charge a large portable power station, you need a much higher voltage. The EcoFlow 800W Alternator Charger solves this by acting as a DC-DC Boost Converter, utilizing a principle called Electromagnetic Induction.

Inside the charger sits an inductor (a heavy coil of copper wire). The device flows the 12V car current through this coil, generating a strong magnetic field. Then, a solid-state transistor rapidly breaks the electrical circuit thousands of times per second. According to Faraday’s Law of Induction, when the current stops, the magnetic field instantly collapses.

This sudden collapse generates a massive voltage spike—much higher than the original 12V. The charger captures these high-voltage spikes through a diode, physically "boosting" the voltage and allowing it to pump a continuous 800W of raw power straight into your station while you drive.
