Fluid Dynamics: How massive home battery towers stay cool without roaring fans

EcoFlow’s stackable home backup systems, like the PowerOcean and Delta Pro Ultra, pack massive amounts of dense LiFePO4 cells and heavy inverters. But instead of relying on arrays of loud, energy-draining cooling fans, the chassis relies on a fluid dynamics principle known as Buoyancy-Driven Convection, or the "Stack Effect".

The battery modules are engineered with precise vertical air channels running from the bottom to the top. As the internal cells generate waste heat during heavy discharge, the air inside these channels warms up. Thermal expansion causes the air molecules to spread apart, decreasing their physical density.

This lighter, hot air naturally rises and escapes through the top exhaust vents. As it exits, it creates a localized low-pressure vacuum at the bottom of the tower, automatically sucking in cold, fresh air from the floor. The system literally uses its own waste heat as the engine to power a continuous, silent flow of cooling air.
