Delta 3 max amps limit

Was reading the delta 3 max manual and it lists the solar xt60i input max. There is of course a max voltage that can not be exceeded and would definitely damage the unit……. But a max amps was also listed with a warning not to exceed. I had believed that exceeding max amps would just be wasted power, but not something that could cause damage?
