The Power Hub's ALT1 input current limit can be user-adjusted. What happens when that limit is reached?

Does the Hub shut the input down? Does the Hub regulate the alternator to limit at the set current? Does it simply reject the excess current? How does this interact with the 1600W input power limitation?
