Maximizing my Net Metered Solar System.

I had a grid-tied, net-metered, roof mounted solar system installed November 2022. The last electric bill I actually had to pay was February 2023.My EF stations have been obtained for power failure backup since I did not get a battery back-up with my solar system. It would have cost more than the system itself becuase of regulations - plus batteries have come way down in cost since then. But, since I have the equipment, I might as well use it for other things.Even though I don't "need" to, spring thru fall I use my EF station, charged with stand-alone solar panels, to reduce what I use from my roof top system (or have to pull from the grid when the sun is absent). The list of items I run purely off of my power stations is not all-inclusive, but carries the larger items:Refrigerator (just started battery use a couple of weeks ago since I added a couple of larger stations)Desktop computer/modem/routerCooking appliances: Microwave, multi-cooker and George Foreman grillCoffee makerPortable DishwasherWashing machineWindow fansDevices - phone, Kindle, laptop (seperate from desktop)Ryobi batteries (charged from EF stations): 40v mower and leaf blower; 18v power tools, lawn equipment, vaccum; and 3-4v misc tools. My pellet stoves (yes, still running - although only light use), lights, TV/cable, on-demand hot water (propane but with elelctric ignition) are still on house power. Yesterday I only pulled 1.3 kwh from the grid and 1.9 kwh from my grid-tied solar for a total of 3.2 kwh from my home system.I enjoy the challenge of keeping my grid and roof solar usage low, while making use of my "emergency" backup equipment to provide for as much of my electrical needs as possible.

EcoGratitude

I don’t have any interesting updates to post at the moment, so I’ll share some gratitude. Thank you to EcoFlow for making products that help me stay prepared and have backup power when needed. I haven’t had to use my Rivers and Deltas yet during a storm, but I know I’ll be ready if I do. Thanks, EcoFlow!

Powering an outdoor events system

If I had unlimited funds and a DPU-X, I would power outdoor entertainment events.I don’t enjoy blasting extremely loud speakers. I wish to strategically place smaller speakers along the length of the grounds, with delay processors so they would be in phase with the speakers in front.I would include whatever is the highest available resolution cameras and LED walls that are available. If I were more practical, I would use projectors, because they take relatively little space to store. With an unlimited budget, I could go for the brightest and sharpest displays possible.Of course, all the spotlights and mood lights are necessary to make the image fantastic for everybody. LED lighting is a little expensive, but they give more consistent color over their brightness ranges than traditional spotlights, while taking far less electricity. A circuit that can power a couple spotlights, can power an entire row of LEDs.Of course, I would not want noisy generators. All the sound should be from the music and vocals. That’s where the DPU-X comes in. The 12kW of the DPU-X are not enough to power a Coachella main stage, but it’s more than adequate for a venue with up to a few thousand guests.

Happy with my purchase.

Pretty pleased with my ECOFLOW pro 3+ ( with its 1 hour fast charging… ) I have a 220 watt solar panel that pairs very nicely! In the future I want to move toward the 3max & the pro 3 for the extra power paired with a pair 500w panel! Honestly my 3+ does everything I ask of it! It can run my gaming laptop for hours… if I paired it with a sunny time with a higher tiered solar pannel then I could last a long time… eventually I want to get heating / cooling

Adapters for directional charging

Some folks here in the forum and in the FB groups have posted about occasional charging challenges between power stations and power banks with bidirectional charging. I picked up a high speed, high watt USB C to USB C adapter online to see if it would help force the charging direction from the Trail to the RAPID. After a short pause, it worked on the first plug in! I’ll keep testing it out to confirm it fully works, but I’m sharing now in case someone else was thinking of trying this option.

Daisy-chain charging

It’s been cloudy and overcast all weekend, so I’ve been recharging my smaller devices using the larger Delta unit. Everything is now recharged and I can work on solar charging the Delta 3 this week. Fun times with EcoFlow!

Rapid 10K keeps the games going!

I frequently game on my PS4, but after many years, the battery capacity on my controllers has decreased over time. One day I’ll replace the internal batteries, but until then? EcoFlow! Since my two controllers are paired to different devices, I use my Rapid 10K to keep the PS4-paired controller charged and ready for the next virtual adventure.

Trail 300 and the EcoFlow 100W USB C cable to the rescue!

I forgot my laptop’s AC power brick at home while working from another location. Cue the Trail 300 and the EcoFlow 100W USB C cable to the rescue! My work laptop can be a power hog when I have several multimedia development apps running. The 65W power brick was getting a bit too hot for my liking, so I borrowed the Trail 300 to keep it all going. The 140W USB C output was a huge help. A relative let me know it was due for a power cycle so I was happy to help them run down the unit! I guess I now have a use case for the 100W EcoFlow power brick. I hope there’s an EcoCredits coupon I can use!
